African Padauk ( Pterocarpus soyauxii) otherwise know as camwood, barwood,or African coralwood. This wood has a beautiful vivid color range of blood red to dark purple-brown with red streaks upon exposure. The sapwood is straw-colored.

Padauk is a hard ,heavy and strong wood. In some parts of the world, it is used as flooring. Elsewhere it is used for furniture, cabinetwork, turning, accents, and inlays and can also be sliced into decorative veneer.

African padauk has not been listed as vulnerable, however other species, particularly Andaman padauk, are much rarer. Very little certified padauk is available.
